OPERATING STATUS: OFF THE AIR!!

From Tim, WB4GBI:

I have some sad news to deliver.  The 146.85 repeater is off the air. The reason why is even more sad: I have been asked to leave the site for reasons beyond my control. The owner of the property is dismantling the site. I have known about this for several weeks, but I had hoped that the site owner would change his mind after a couple of conversations. It was only a year ago (April 2015), that myself and a group of dedicated amateur radio operators delivered the repeater back to Cove Mountain where it had served East Tennessee since the early 1970's. Many of the same hams went up in the Fall of last year to do some needed maintenance on the building. A lot of time, effort,  and money went into this repeater, its rebuilding, and to the site itself. However, due to some extraordinary circumstances, it was not meant to be. The 146.85 repeater was the highest repeater in the Middle East Tennessee Area, and its footprint reached into the Great Smoky Mountains where other repeaters and cellular service could not. I retrieved the repeater and duplexer on April 16, 2016. The antenna and feed line were removed on April 24, 2016.  The repeater has been was delivered to its soon-to-be new home, of which I will have some more details about soon. I will miss Cove Mountain.
